NT:Two protesters brave export heartland

A protest hoping to send a clear message to governments that animal cruelty will not
be tolerated has attracted just two participants in Darwin.

The pair from the Ethical Treatment of Animals have stood outside the Northern Territory
parliament protesting against the departure of Australia's first post-ban shipment of
cattle to Indonesia.

About three-thousand head of Elders cattle, which have been held in yards since the
federal government announced a ban on live exports to Indonesia in June, is scheduled
to leave Darwin tomorrow.

PETA spokeswoman CLARE KNIGHT says thousands of cattle die en route to Indonesia due
to horrific conditions.
